Blomfield Special School is a place of learning for all. We have around 200 ORS students aged between 5 -21 years who attend our kura. We operate as a learning collective- we have our Central Campus in the heart of Whangarei, and a network of satellite units throughout te Tai Tokerau. Our school's value of Aroha - Love for Learning drives all we do.
Our Whangarei based units are in Manaia View school, Morningside School and Te Kamo High School. We have remote satellites in the Kaitaia area, mid North and we are currently planning towrads units in Dargaville.
At Central Campus we have Junior Base classes for our 5-7 year old's . We also have our centrally located Te Wheke facility which caters for students from 8 to 12 years, and our Transition facility supports students from 13-21 Years. These classes are all situated at 31 Maunu Road, where our administration and specialists teams are also located. Wherever our students go to school, it is important to us that they and their whanau feel a part of the Blomfield Community- we hope that our school value of Manaakitanga shines across our community and brings us together
Throughout our network it is vital that we maintain a high standard of quality teaching . We have consistent programmes throughout units and our teaching staff work on their professional development as a joined up learning community. We teach the New Zealand Curriculum , which we adapt to meet individual needs. We meet with whanau and students to develop personalised plans that ensure that we are meeting the the holistic nature of development, including hauora, communication, and social skills. Our specialist team support our teachers to deliver these personalised goals. We also provide our customised Structured Literacy and Structured Maths programmes throughout the school.
Once students reach 16 years they enter our specialized Transition programme, "Nau Tenei Au"with a focus on setting up for a successful life post school.
